this gave me chills

June 11 - France vs. Uruguay

There is only one word that describes France right now: FAIL FAIL FAIL. This French side was probably one of the most unproductive, uncreative sides I have ever seen. The ‘magician’ Ribery was probably active for about the first 15 minutes or so, then performed his disappearing trick and was not seen the rest of the game. THE REST OF THE GAME. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Your team is in complete turmoil after the firing of your coach, almost no team chemistry, no Karim Benzema, you decide to sit back watch the rest of the game. Great. Ribery….YOU NEED TO STEP IT UP!

The second criticism goes to coach Raymond Domenech for being a complete douche. Honestly, if I had managed that game, I would have won. The man does not start the legendary Thierry Henry, and plays only a single striker formation with Nicolas Anelka. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of his (I even have his fb) but Anelka just does not play that kind of style. He plays with a striking partner up top. The substitutes that were made during the game was even more awful. Not only did they come on really late in the game, Domenech made a straight-forward sub: Anelka for Henry. That really adds a lot of scoring punch buddy…changed a lot there. He also subbed out new superstar Yoann Gourcuff (kid is absolutely dirty btw) for Malouda….not the fail on the wing Govou, who has lost the ball 9 or 10 times during the course of the game. GET YOUR SUBS RIGHT BUDDY!!

Now ends my rant of how bad France is and how good Uruguay was defensively. These guys were only known for their prolific offense of superstar Diego Forlan (this man is an absolute machine) and Luis Suarez, who combined for 77 or so goals this season. These 2 men are monsters, but now they are playing defense? Uruguay should be very pleased with frustrating France and stealing 1 point. There were a few chances where Forlan had some good looks at the goal but just could not beat the keeper or missed horribly wide. If you are the best player on the team, act like it. You cannot afford to miss much more quality looks because your country is expecting a lot from you.

Man of the Match: Mauricio Victorino

This man was an absolute beast today. He was the Dwight Howard of soccer, blocking and clearing balls left and right on defense. Almost every single time the ball entered the penalty box, that man was able to challenge the ball successfully, clear it, or block it. Eventually defense was the name of the game and this man helped give his team 1 point in the standings.

June 11 - South Africa vs. Mexico

The Goal of a Continent

by Siphiwe Tshalala

This was the story of the day: South Africa, the lowest seed ever to host a World Cup, scored the continent of Africa’s first World Cup goal on home soil. Not only that, the wonder-strike on a fast-break by winger Tshalala drew first blood from group A rivals Mexico. The stadium went absolutely ballistic.

The match, however, was did not go as well as was just described. South Africa appeared sluggish, nervous, and rigid in the opening minutes of the game, which helped Mexico find space around the South African penalty box early. Mexico also dominated possession, holding an estounding 64%. In other words, Mexico completely dominated. It is just that sometimes, things just do not go your way.

Mexico did eventually answer back with a goal provided by Rafael Marquez from Barcelona, out of pure luck. A missed header from a cross landed right at Marquez’s feet and ended up in the back of net. Just a stroke of luck changed everything. In the end, both sides were unable to break the deadlock because Mexico was unable to do anything with their large amount of possession. The Mexican star Dos Santos was locked down the entire game and was unable to create any chances for his side due to solid defense by the hosts.

All in all, good outing for South Africa who will surely rise in the world rankings after this game, though they only walk away with 1 point, they should be proud of themselves for what they have accomplished. Mexico, though, have a few things to work on like being less hasty with the ball.

Man of the Match: I think this goes to Mr. Tshalala for what he has done for his country and the Continent of Africa. Should check out his goal. it was Christiano Ronaldo-like.
